The US is currently experiencing a strong rise in practice-oriented training (‘registered apprenticeships’).

My Administration will further protect and strengthen Registered Apprenticeships and build on their successes to seize new opportunities and unlock the limitless potential of the American worker.

President Donald J. Trump, Executive Order Preparing Americans for High Paying Skilled Trade Jobs of the Future

Given this, GOVET invites you to the ‘Transatlantic VET Webinar’ — a compact 75-minute online format with simultaneous interpreting that highlights opportunities and challenges for German companies in the US, as well as how the situation in the US is shaping up for the states. The discussion will focus on how training can become a strategic response to skills shortages, competitive pressure and dynamic conditions.

Current developments show:

  • Over 680,000 active trainees (2024) – more than twice as many as in 2023
  • 112,000 training qualifications in 2024 (+143% in ten years)
  • Growing diversity: almost 65,000 trainees entering technical professions
  • Attractive prospects: average wage after graduation > £32/hour
  • Relevance for German companies: investments > US$600 billion, but skills shortages and trade policy risks

Topics for discussion and key questions:

  • How do training programmes strengthen the US workforce?
  • What role can German companies play in expanding them?
  • How do transatlantic partnerships turn challenges into opportunities?

What it is all about?

With input from the German-American Chamber of Commerce in Chicago, the Wisconsin Department of Labour and the American Council on Germany, among others, we will jointly examine trends, practical examples and political framework conditions – and assess what this means in concrete terms for German and US companies.

We are already looking forward to the exchange – register now!
