Data for a sustainable vocational education and training system: New GOVET publication released
How can data, digital tools and artificial intelligence help to further develop vocational education and training systems in an evidence-based manner? The new GOVET publication, ‘Evidence-Based VET Policy Through Data Reporting and Data Science’, brings together experiences and perspectives from 16 countries on this topic.
Vocational education and training systems around the world face similar challenges: they must identify changes in the labour market at an early stage, assess the demand for skilled workers and adapt training programmes to new requirements. Reliable data and new analytical tools can help to ensure that decisions are well-founded.

32 contributions from 16 countries
In a total of 32 contributions from 16 countries, the authors demonstrate how data in vocational education and training can be collected, processed and used to inform political and institutional decisions. The range of topics spans from ‘Establishing national vocational education and training reporting’ and ‘Monitoring systems and data-driven policy-making’ to ‘The use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence’.
Perspectives from Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Germany, Ghana, Israel, Myanmar, Austria, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Uzbekistan and Vietnam highlight just how varied national circumstances are – and, at the same time, how much potential lies in international exchange regarding data, methods and experiences.
Among other things, the contributions examine how national reporting systems are established, how data is translated into concrete insights for vocational education and training policy, and how digital tools, including AI, are transforming vocational education and training at both the systemic and classroom levels.
