The Year 2025 for GOVET

What was the GOVET highlight in 2025? We asked our colleagues this question and received very different answers. We captured them in a short video. (The video is available in German with English subtitles)

Networked expertise: the one-stop shop from GOVET as the central service of German VET cooperation

In 2025, demand for sound knowledge on dual training “Made in Germany” once again rose significantly in comparison to the previous year. GOVET expanded its communication services in 2025 and reached more stakeholders than ever before with online and in-person services.

VET reporting in Ghana: From development to professionalisation

VET reporting remains one of the key pillars of the bilateral cooperation with Ghana. The further professionalisation of data reporting, expansion of networks and close coordination with national and international partners were the focus in 2025.

Specialist topic: Sustainability in vocational education and training

Sustainability was again a cross-cutting topic in 2025. The Central Office organised several events with the advisory product “VET Chain” and presented the specialist publication on sustainability in vocational education and training, which contains contributions from 22 authors from eleven countries.

Joint standards for modern vocational education and training in South Africa

Germany and South Africa intensify their VET cooperation. In 2025, the focus was on lecturer and curricular development, establishing larger stakeholder networks, and adopting standardised competence profiles for TVET teaching staff.

New landing pages

With its newly redesigned landing pages, GOVET provides guidance on topics relating to German vocational education and training in nine different languages via the language selector in the header. The landing pages have been specifically revamped to provide international partners with materials and information from a single source.

The German-Italian vocational education and training cooperation implemented various activities in 2025, from study trips and academic specialist exchange to new formats for promoting dual VET in Italy.

USA: Exchange on the vocational education and training system

Practice-oriented training as a career path, or apprenticeships, remain a key topic under the current US administration. In 2025, GOVET supported specialist networking with various American stakeholders from politics, academia, and business.

Dialogue with Georgia

GOVET maintains regular dialogue with Georgia and is in close contact with the GIZ office in Georgia. Since early 2025, the Central Office has been part of the ‘Friends of VET’ network of the Donor Committee for Dual VET (DCdVET). At the round table hosted by the German Embassy in Georgia on 7 May 2025, GOVET contributed its expertise with a keynote presentation.

Special topic: Central Asia and South Caucasus

Central Asian countries’ interest in cooperating with Germany continued to grow in 2025. Exploratory trips, round tables, and targeted networking have opened up new pathways for international vocational education and training cooperation.

Bilateral cooperation with Denmark

The BMBFSFJ has been engaged in bilateral cooperation with Denmark since 2024. In September, GOVET took part in the ‘Centres of Excellence’ conference in Kolding, Denmark. At the EuroSkills 2025 vocational skills competition in Herning, the Central Office was present at the WorldSkills Germany stand with multilingual materials on the German vocational training system.

In 2025, the GOVET videos on our YouTube channels reached views, and the channels underwent a soft relaunch.
