A partner stand organised by GOVET on behalf of the BMBF at the 2019 didacta Italia in Florence made a successful contribution to German-Italian vocational education and training cooperation. It was the stand’s second appearance at the fair.

Qualified VET staff is a key element for the improvement of quality and performance of VET. For this reason, the Moldovan Ministry of Education wants to address this issue more intensively. A glance at the developments in Moldova in the following article.

Moldova is well ahead of its neighbours in terms of VET. It is the only country in South Eastern Europe that offers a dual VET system with clear-cut shared roles embedded in an institutional architecture. For this reason, it can play a pioneering role when introducing dual VET.

Choosing the right career entails a complex development process – from an individual, social, economic and governmental viewpoint. The third vocational education and training conference of the German Embassy in Moscow on 16 September investigated how Russia is structuring this process.

In the anniversary year of the Israel Programme, Israeli VET  experts travelled to Germany in May. They wanted to learn how VET can reverse the skilled labour shortage. In the Central Franconia region, they familiarised themselves with the mechanisms of VET in Germany.

The South Australian Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni visited the BIBB on 26 August 2019. The main focus of his trip to Germany was to exchange procedures and strategies for increasing participation in vocational education and training in South Australia.

The 45th World Skills will take place in Kazan, Russia, from 22 to 27 August. Trainees, students and young professionals up to 23 years of age will measure their skills in 56 disciplines. 39 specialists from Germany will be present.

Federal Minister of Education Karliczek signed a Joint Declaration of Intent on cooperation in VET with Ghanaian Minister of Education Prempeh. This is the second VET cooperation agreement that the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has entered into with an African partner country. 

On Monday 12 August 2019, the Costa Rican Parliament passed a draft law on dual vocational education and training. Costa Rica has thus created the foundations that will enable dual VET to become a part of its national education system.

On 16 July 2019, Dr. Silvia Annen, Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), was one of three international experts to take part in a hearing of the U.S. House of Representatives' Higher Education and Workforce Investment Subcommittee in Washington DC.

The German-South African vocational education and training cooperation has been renewed for a second time for a further period of three years. The successful collaboration between the two countries will thus continue.

GOVET is expanding its audiovisual offer and is now available on YouTube with an English and German channel. GOVET /en/ and GOVET /de/ deal with the international working world of today and tomorrow - and the importance of vocational training. In up to 11 languages.

The aim in Malaysia is for vocational education and training to be a “game changer” by taking on a crucial role to drive forward the development of the national economy. The country’s government is currently working on a comprehensive reform of the vocational education and training system.

GIZ has published a cost benefit analysis of in-company training in Pakistan. The paper provides substantial answers on how companies benefit from providing in-company training.

GOVET will advise Iran on planned VET reforms. The relevant ministries signed a Joint Declaration of Intent of Understanding on future German-Iranian vocational education and training cooperation at a workshop in Teheran which GOVET helped to organise.

In the spirit of a dialogue between equal partners, the first German-Chinese Expert Forum on Innovation in Vocational Education and Training took place on 26 June 2019 in Berlin. The event – conceived by GOVET – was formally opened by Minister Karliczek and Vice Premier Sun Chunlan.

The Joint Declaration of Intent on vocational education and training cooperation between Germany and Mexico was extended in Mexico City on 4 July 2019. The German BMBF and BMZ have been supporting the Mexican Government with the introduction of a dual VET system since 2015.

Germany and Portugal have once again extended their cooperation in vocational education and training. The Joint Declaration of Intent on VET cooperation between the two countries, which dates back to 2012, was renewed for the second time in Lisbon on 7th February 2019.

The “Strategy of the Federal Government on international cooperation in vocational education and training” was formally adopted by the Federal Cabinet on 22 May 2019. The aim is to increase the effectiveness of the Federal Government’s commitment by engaging in more joint strategic coordination.

The craft trades occupation of hairdresser goes international – the two GOVET productions “Improving training quality together” and “My experience abroad during vocational training” show the added value of international cooperation in dual training.

A visit to Berlin by the Minister of Education of Brunei at the end of January showed just how untypical the dual VET system is in other parts of the world. State Secretary Schütte received the minister at the BMBF to engage in detailed discussions on vocational education and training.

Future technologies, financing of training and higher education study, the Digital Pact for Schools, investment in universities of applied sciences: Minister Karliczek addressed these four main areas of education and research policy during her speech on the 2019 Budget Law.

On 10 December 2018, Federal Minister of Education and Research Anja Karliczek and her Russian counterpart Mikhail Kotyukov met in Moscow to sign the “German-Russian Road Map for Cooperation in Education, Science, Research, and Innovation” focused on the next ten years.
